Saint George's Day.
Feast Days are days celebrated to commemorate the sacred mysteries and events in memory of the Virgin Mother of Christ or His apostles, martyrs and saints. These days are celebrated by special services or festivals. Ever religion has feasts but none are so rich or judiciously constructed as the system of festive seasons of the Catholic Church. The succession of these seasons form the ecclesiastical year documented on the liturgical calendar. The oldest ecclesiastical feast are the Jewish solemnities of Easter and Pentecost. Together with 'The Lord's Day they were the only universal Christian feasts into the third century. Epiphany and Christmas were added in the fourth century and in the sixth and seventh century the feasts of the Blessed Virgin were added (Assumption and the Immaculate Conception). The calendar grew because bishops were given the right to establish new feasts. The Statutes of Bishop Sonnatius of Reims in 620 lists eleven feasts; the Statutes of St. Boniface mention nineteen days. In ninth century England feasts were confined to Christmas, Epiphany, the three days of Easter, Assumption, St. Peter and Paul, St. Gregory and All Saints Day. As the number of recognized saints increased through the first half of the Middle Ages, eventually, every day of the year listed at least one saint. Many days listed two or more. Eventually some saints were removed but today some days are reserved to one or more saints.

This is probably the hardest question any goth could try and answer, one may as well ask 'what is society?' as it has so many facets it defies any definitive explanation.
Goth in its simplest form, is a subculture. A group of people who feel comfortable within each others company. There is no specific thing that defines what you need to do or be to fit into the goth scene (except of course the implied black clothing). People in the goth scene all have different musical tastes, follow different religions, have different occupations, hobbies, and fashion sense. Most goths become goths because they have been spurned by 'normal' society because the way they want to live their lives does not fit in with how most people are told to live theirs. Goths are free thinkers, people who do not accept the moral rules of society because they're told 'This is just how it is' or 'This is what God says!'. Rather goths tend to listen to what you have to say, and make up their own mind. This kind of free thinking and rejection of dogma earns only rejection in todays society.
However because of this rejection from 'normal' society, goths have banded together to associate with other free thinkers. This has a beneficial effect on both the individual and society as a whole. For the individual they have a sense of belonging, and friends they can associate with. For society it removes one more misfit filled with rage from society's streets.
This of course is not the case for all goths. Many goths today are goths for a variety of other reasons. They like the music, or the clubs are better, they have goth friends and joined in with them, or they just like staying up late nights and goths are the only ones awake to talk to.

Valentine's Day...

While some believe that Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death or burial–which probably occurred around A.D. 270–others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St. Valentine’s feast day in the middle of February in an effort to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Celebrated at the ides of February, or February 15, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus. To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification. They would then strip the goat’s hide into strips, dip them into the sacrificial blood and take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city’s bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage.

                                   The weird world of sports!
Cheese-rolling.
Cheese-rolling takes place every May Gloucestershire, England. Competitors run down a very steep hill (in places it has a 1 in 2 gradient!)...and why? They are following a very big local cheese that rolls down the hill! Every year there are hundreds of spectators. The Master of Ceremonies,in traditional costume, starts the race. A special guest lunches the cheese, and the participants follow. The person who arrives at the bottom of the hill frist wins the cheese!
Zorbing.
Zorbing is a new sport from New Zealand. It's not a competitive sport. The 'zorb' is a gigantic inflatable ball, abount 3 metres high, and contains another smaller ball. The ball made of clear plastic. A person (the zorbonaut) stands inside the zorb, and  rolls down the hill. During the journey, the zorbonaut feels strange sensations, and sees blu sky and green grass, blue sky ... green grass ... blue ... green ... The inflated sphere is very soft, like a cushion,so it isn't dangerous!
Speak Takraw.
Speak Takaraw is a popular sport in Malaysia and other countries in Asia. Speak means 'kick',and Takraw means 'ball'. It combines football, volleyball and gymnastics in one game! There are three players in a team, and the two team stand on opposite sides of a net. They can't use their hands or arms. Players are very athletic!
Bossball.
Bosseball is a new, musical sport from Belgium. It is a combination of volleyball and trampolining, with live South American muisc! Players play on a inflatable court, with round trampolines and a net. People play it at school,on the beach and at music festivals. Teams of 3-5 players can use their hands, feet or hand to hit the ball over the net. They jump on the trampoline, and try to keep the ball in the air. A team can touch the ball eight times before they pass it to the other team. The bossaball referees play live music while the teams are playing!
